Research & Innovation in Autism Care
Exploring better ways to support autistic adults with high support needs, through reflection, learning, and collaboration.
Learning That Leads to Better Support
Our insights drive both daily practice and strategic development. Committed to continuous improvement, we collaborate with leading researchers, including Professor Geoff Bird at UCL, to help shape the future of autism care through meaningful, data-driven innovation.
Why Research Matters in Autism Care
To us, research is not an academic exercise. It’s a way of listening better, to autistic people, their families, and the wider care community. It helps us understand how people experience emotion, regulation, decision-making, or social connection, and how we can respond more effectively.
Our interest in evidence-based autism support comes from a genuine desire to do better. We want to build a model of care that reflects lived experience, emerging understanding, and real human insight. That means staying curious, staying open, and always asking how we can improve the lives of the people we support.
Partnership Spotlight: Professor Geoff Bird
We are proud to be working with Professor Geoff Bird, a cognitive neuroscientist known for his research into autism, empathy, and social understanding. Professor Bird brings deep insight into how autistic adults process emotions, interact with others, and make decisions.
This partnership reflects our belief that specialist support should be both reflective and responsive. We’re learning from Professor Bird’s expertise while sharing what we’ve observed through our everyday work. It’s a collaboration rooted in mutual respect, with the shared goal of making support more inclusive, meaningful, and empowering.
Our Commitment to Future Practice
Our journey into research-led autism care is just beginning, and we’re honest about that. But we are committed to learning, from experts, from families, from professionals, and most importantly, from the autistic people we support.
We’re embedding reflective practice across our teams, exploring new ideas through staff development, and taking time to consider how research findings can shape day-to-day support. Fairmont’s culture is one of continuous improvement, not chasing trends, but evolving thoughtfully and always with purpose.
