Freedom With the Right Support

At Fairmont, we are committed to implementing the least restrictive approaches in every aspect of an individual’s life. This includes careful consideration of support levels, medication use, and behaviour management strategies.

Working closely with medical professionals and in line with STOMP (Stopping Over Medication of People with a Learning Disability, Autism or Both), we have supported individuals to reduce and in some cases fully cease the use of antipsychotic and PRN (as-needed) medication. These changes are achieved gradually and safely, under clinical guidance and with a strong foundation of consistent, person-centred support.

In alignment with the six core principles of the Restraint Reduction Network, we also place a strong emphasis on reducing restrictive practices. Many individuals we support have experienced a significant reduction or complete cessation of physical interventions. This progress is the result of proactive, relational approaches and positive behaviour support that fosters trust, communication, and emotional regulation.

Furthermore, several individuals have reduced their required support levels due to the stability and familiarity provided by skilled staff and well-managed environments. These successes reflect our core aim: to empower people to live more independently, with dignity, choice, and improved quality of life.
